Measuring Success

Troubling Statistics

  • From the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration: "Aggressive diving causes approximately one-third of all motor vehicle accidents in the United States and two-thirds of all domestic vehicular fatalities."
  • The NCSA (National Center for Statistics and Analysis): In 2003, "Motor Vehicle crashes were the leading cause of death for people from 15 to 20 years of age."
  • The NCSA (National Center for Statistics and Analysis): "In 2005, 16-to-24-year-olds represented 24 percent of all traffic fatalities."
  • Heinrich's Accident Pyramid: "For every 1 fatal accident there are 30 minor accidents and 300 near-misses." Said another way, 1 in 10 near-misses becomes an accident.

Why Teletag was started

This program has been created to save money and save lives. As the founder of Teletag, my daughter, in 2006, turned 15 and as she became closer to driving age I thought about how to make our roads safer and more accountable for all drivers. This program makes it easy for everyone to do their part.

The objective of the program is simple: Teletag is an alternative to doing nothing or calling the police. The reality is that most driving incidents, illegal or not, cannot be reported to authorities effectively. I grew up in a town of 700 people and found out very fast that it doesn't take a lot of effort for someone to pick up the phone and call my father when I am driving 60 mph down a back road. Teletag is built to facilitate the efforts of the community on a national scale.

Success

There are many ways to track success for any program, but for this one it doesn't seem reasonable to track it any other way than with reduced young driver fatalities.

This program will be deemed successful if young driver (16 - 24) accidents drop by 30% within 5 years. (August, 2008)
