If I want to report a driver, is it anonymous?
Yes, absolutely. There are safe guards in the system to ensure prank calls are ignored and one
of the safe guards requires a caller id on the phone call made when reporting an incident. This phone
number is never seen or used within the system, but is used to identify the caller and is the first
step of ensuring a valid incident.
-
Is it safe to report an incident using a mobile phone while driving?
While reporting incidents drivers should take all normal precautions that are taken when using
a cell phone within a car. One of the main reasons we have made the reporting process so simple, is to
ensure the incident can be done quickly and efficiently. We listen to every reported incident and
transcribe it into our system. If you do not have a hands free hookup in your car, or an ear piece,
then the incident should be done at a later time, when it can be registered using a safer method.
Many states already have laws guiding the use of a cell phone within car. These laws, rules and guidelines
should be followed to ensure your safety and the safety of others.
If your car has a hands free setup, simply program the Teletag reporting number (1-800-634-SAFE(7233)) into
your car so that any reporting done, can be done hands free. This will ensure timely reporting and
maximum safety.
-
Is the Teletag Family Safety Program free for my family?
Yes, the program is free for any family, however to be notified or to see the full text of reported
incidents, the family must signup for the Teletag Signal!
service, which is not free.
To provide your family immediate notifications through email and/or text messaging on your
mobile phone, Teletag offers the Teletag Signal! service. This
service cost $29.95 and provides notifications
for all your family's cars, whether you have one car or twelve.
-
What is Teletag Signal!?
Teletag Signal! is a notification service that will notify you by email and/or mobile text message as
incidents are reported. This provides your family with the timely information that could make
all difference in keeping your child safe by addressing problems as they happen, not after
incidents turn into accidents.
-
Why would I want to be notified of a registered incident?
First and foremost, the Teletag reporting service collects valuable data about driving habits and actively looks
for
companies and organizations to use this data. This means that whether anyone is ever notified of an
incident, every reported incident is forwarded onto organizations like insurance companies, state and local
governments or rental car companies. In light of this fact, it is important that everyone register
for this program, so that they are aware of all reported incidents.
As a father of a teenager, I know that the best way to help ensure my child's safety is to hold them accountable
for
their actions. The Teletag Family Safety Program is a program taylor-made to make your child accountable while
driving.
To ensure that I am notified when my child might be in danger, I want to be notified when the incident is reported.
This allows me to take action immediately. Teletag Signal! provides this ability to your family. Without
Teletag Signal!, the reported incident is logged and is available within the reports from your
Teletag Family Safety login.
-
When I sign up for the service, do all previously reported incidents show up on my reports?
No, only incidents reported after signing up for this service will show up on your reports.
-
Why does this make sense for my family?
Studies have shown:
1) that for every fatal accident, there are 30 minor accident, and 300 near misses,
2) drivers reported knowing overwhelmingly, what constituted aggressive or reckless driving without any training,
3) holding drivers accountable decreases accidents and costs anywhere from 30% to 50%.
This means that by allowing drivers to report others when reckless or aggressive driving is witnessed and by
providing a program that can hold drivers accountable, Teletag is able to make your family or fleet
safer and can save you money.
-
My teenager will not like this program?
They may not, but it will make them safer and ultimately a better driver. In addition, as a father or mother,
you don't
have to handle reported incidents as punishment, each can be handled as instructional opportunities. If a pattern
continues, through reported incidents, you may want to get them some training or spend some time with the child
to ensure
they make better choices on the road.
A big problem on the road today is texting. It has caused traffic accidents and has made many drivers unsafe.
These
types of activities can be reported and handled before they become a serious problem for your family.
Ultimately, this information will make your teenager or dependent driver happier ... they just may not know it
for
a couple of years.
-
Are these incidents reported to insurance companies or other entities?
No, the data is not reported right now. However, the data collected may be used after a time for research
by organizations that want to study the correlation between reported incidents with actual accidents. The
information could be very useful in identifying risking driving habits or drivers.
Whether you or anyone else registers to be notified of these incidents, reported incidents are stored
in our database.
-
How does Teletag ensure that the data is not fradulent?
This is done a number of ways, some public and others proprietary to the organization:
1) only registered incidents from identifiable callers are used in our system,
2) as a member of the Teletag Safety Program, you are able to register as many
phone numbers to ignore as you would like,
3) Teletag uses algorithms to ensure that truely random incidents are used and that prank calls are ignored.
